100% Natural: The Tea-shirt
Used tea bags, clothes hanger, hot glue, projector, fishing line, gouache paint, 2020
Reflecting on California wildfires, sculpture calls attention to consequences of consumerism: natural destruction. Although wildfires are, to some extent, part of the natural cycle of life, some of the current destruction is due to global warming, which is exacerbated when we remove nature from its natural cycle to turn them into products. Leaves within the tea bags represent nature, tea bags making up the Tea-shirt represents it’s conversion to a consumer product, and open tea bags projected onto the background reveal its hidden consequences.
